I experienced an error when trying to export a png image. Both GUI and the command line versions report the same error.
I have tried the following 3 Java versions.

Mac default: 1.8.0_301 # Can’t even launch
Conda “bio01”: 11.0.9.1 # Error when trying to export png
Mac default (current): 18.0.2 # Error when trying to export png

Here is what solved this problem for me: switching to an older version of Java (I used JDK 1.7 for Mac).
