Help with building a Wasm Query.

Assuming I've got an HttpClient, contract address, and payload I should be able to send off a wasm query. I can't quite figure out how to use abci_query to get what I want. I don't see how to build the data parameter.

    let my_query = serde_json::to_string(QueryMsg::MyQuery{})?;
    let client = get_client()?;
    let contract_addr = get_addr();

    // How do you build data?
    client.abci_query(None, data, None, false)?;
