The blank template has a comment that shows how to add a Microsub meta tag to your website. Should a similar comment also be put in place for webmentions? This may be out of scope but having a comment might bring attention to the fact webmentions exist to people who use this template and are new to the IndieWeb.
I would propose a comment like:
<!-- To start accepting comments from other websites, check out:
https://indieweb.org/Webmention
1. After creating your site, sign in to webmention.io with your domain name.
2. Add a link in this <head> tag that says:
<link rel="webmention" href="https://webmention.io/example.com/webmention">
4. Publish the updated page!
Comments do not show on your site automatically.
To show comments, check out https://github.com/PlaidWeb/webmention.js/
-->
With this guidance, we would raise awareness for webmentions and illustrate that it's really easy to start accepting comments posted from other websites. The drawback is that this may be out of scope and could cause information overload for someone who is new to the IndieWeb. Although seeing as this is a comment, a visitor could dismiss the comment entirely at their discretion.
