We used to use youtube to count attendees live, but our new format of streaming Youtube into our page made their counter unreliable: autoplay videos don't get counted, and our player is constantly switching to new videos and triggering the autoplay.
We tried to use an open source tracker Matomo to track live views and get analytics during the 2021 conference, but it ended up being caught in the adblocker for 1/2 to 3/4 of attendees.
The streaming application, managed by @michaschwab , did provide some information via counts of requests to Firebase, so that could be an option. Maybe we could make a widget that provides live reads from Firebase into the discord channel? Any thoughts Micha?
