It may not be very satisfying to use if it only works on a small fraction of pages.
What do we do about multiple ISBNs on the same page? I suppose we could have a list for people to pick from... that UI would work for Amazon find results and whatnot as well, but of course it wouldn't be trivial to create.
Are ISBNs easy to scrape off of Wikipedia? The one on that page is in an anchor tag with a title attribute of "Special:BookSources/1-4000-6232-2"... perhaps that's a consistent feature (the BookSources, not the number of course).
Incidentally, if you click on that link, it goes to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:BookSources/1-4000-6232-2 which is basically Wikipedia's own Interchange. It would probably be quite straightforward to make Interchange work on that page... I wonder if there are any kind of fancy symbiotic things we could do with that page.
These are all good points. Thank you for the reality check. I think I'll reframe this as "pick over wikipedia's BookSources exchange and see if we can play nicely with it".
...at least when an article lists an ISBN, a la http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Age_Ahead
