I'm currently building one to check out how well it works. There were two minor things I noticed. In the bill of materials there was nothing about female headers for the micro controllers and the small capacitor at the voltage regulator was not mentioned in the assembly instructions.
Since the hives I'm using are narrower (382 mm square inside, Swedish standard "lågnormal") I will make an adaptation in the hive bottom and place the bee counter in an angle inside the bottom. I also decided to go for the simplest version of micro controller and have data collection and presentation in a Raspberry Pi. The bee counter will act only as a sensor and I will probably just use an ordinary USB cable for both power and serial communication. between the micro controller and the Pi.
Thank you!
