Andrew Huo's edits aren't described more specifically, nor credited on Bandcamp; this credit is pulled from [the original MSPA sound credits](https://web.archive.org/web/20100210001701/http://www.mspaintadventures.com/soundcredits.html). It was removed sometime between [June 12, 2012](https://web.archive.org/web/20120621202058/http://www.mspaintadventures.com/soundcredits.html) and [August 5, 2012](https://web.archive.org/web/20120805031705/http://www.mspaintadventures.com/soundcredits.html), when the sound credits were updated with proper links back to Bandcamp.

For seven or more years (dating through [NSND](https://homestuck.net/music/references.html) between [January 2016](https://web.archive.org/web/20160107183210/http://xzazupsilon.webs.com/nsnd.html) and [May 2017](https://web.archive.org/web/20160107183210/http://xzazupsilon.webs.com/nsnd.html)), this track was considered to reference/sample the "amen break", a broadly used and much-enjoyed drum loop from [[track:amen-brother]].

Around [[date:July 27 2016]], [[artist:makin]] contacted Kalibration asking about this track; Kali shared that it features [[track:classic-rap-break|"Classic Rap Break"]]. This was an exciting day!

<img src="media/misc/classic-rap-break-find.png" width="450">

NSND continued, however, to list Amen, Brother as the sampled track, and this was carried into the Homestuck Music Wiki. Then, in May 2024, Makin flagged that Upward Movement samples [[track:the-easiest-way-to-fall]], not Amen, Brother (courtesy of [a thread by /u/E-Rulz on /r/homestuck](https://www.reddit.com/r/homestuck/comments/12e211q/i_found_the_upward_movement_drums_at_007/)), and [[artist:pascal-van-den-bos|Pascal]] shared a comment about Classic Rap Break. Both sample sources were added to the wiki, and Upward Movement (and related tracks) were updated.

The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love
The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love

We used to drink from the loving cup
Now that cup is shattered and I've given up
I see the fragments where love used to stand
I used to gather roses, now there's thorns in my hand

Without your strength I waste away
(Without your strength I waste away)
From hand to hand, from man to man
(From hand to hand, from man to man)
You taught me

The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love
The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love
The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love
The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love

I gave my love, my one and only gift
Oh, but when your love faded, my soul began to drift
No longer am I like a tree standing tall
'Cause when you cut me down that day, I lost it all

You were the captain of my ship
(You were the captain of my ship)
Now I'm lost out at sea without you, without me
(Now I'm lost out at sea without you)
You taught me

The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love
The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love
The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love
The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love

The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love
The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love
The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love...

This drum loop is best known (in Homestuck music) for being sampled by [[track:upward-movement-dave-owns]]. Anytime another track uses the same drum loop as in Upward Movement, we point the reference to this "track".

The name "Classic Rap Break" appears to originate from the website [Free-Loops.com](https://web.archive.org/web/20110114033450/https://free-loops.com/4121-classic-rap-break.html), sometime between [May 2007](https://web.archive.org/web/20070702062137/http://free-loops.com/free-loops.php) (when the site started) and [October 2009](https://web.archive.org/web/20150109075224/https://dight310.byu.edu/media/audio/FreeLoops.com/2/2/). Without a clue where the sample came from, Free-Loops.com listed the track for personal use only. (Upward Movement itself was included on [[album:homestuck-vol-2]] in December 2009.)

In July 2016, [[artist:makin]] contacted [[artist:kalibration]] (who composed Upward Movement) on SoundCloud and asked about the sample in Upward Movement. Kali shared a link to a file titled "upward movement break aka classic rap break.wav", confirming Upward Movement samples this particular drum loop.

In April 2023, /u/E-Rulz [shared on /r/homestuck](https://www.reddit.com/r/homestuck/comments/12e211q/i_found_the_upward_movement_drums_at_007/) that the Upward Movement drum loop originated from a 1970 track by Freda Payne, [[track:the-easiest-way-to-fall]]. And in May 2024, Upward Movement (and other tracks sampling its loop) were updated on the music wiki to point to Classic Rap Break.
