What happens?
I launch it, and windows basically stops until it's closed. I've tried both 1.4.2 and 1.5.4, both installer and zip, both cause this issue. Can't even open the debugger for a log file, it's that bad.

What should happen?
IDK, it opens and doesn't nearly crash windows? I last used PPSSPP years ago on my old PC.

What hardware and operating system are you running PPSSPP on? GPU might matter if it's a graphical issue.

Weird, this is not happening for many people so must be something specific to your setup. Two things that may be interesting to try:

  • Upgrade your NVIDIA drivers to the latest version
  • Go into memstick/PSP/SYSTEM/ppsspp.ini and change GPUBackend to 0, 1, 2, and 3, and see if any of those work.

System is empty. The whole of Memstick is.

Update: Deleated PPSSPP, attempting the ZIP of 1.5.4 again.

Can you try much older versions, such as 1.0.1? Just wondering if any version works.

I have an idea if nothing else. Can you upload the default memstick files for me to put in there and see if it hangs?

@TehPlayer14

Perhaps try to clean boot and try to run PPSSPP no idea if that would work but its worth a shot or even in safe mode

We found the issue I guess. Booted in Safe Mode. OpenGL was the issue according to this. No issues with DX9.

Edit: No problems with DX11 either. Going to test a few games.

OK, good. Unfortunate that we failed to fall back automatically to D3D...

Hopefully if anyone else has this problem they'll end up here when googling. To force another GPU backend on first boot, start PPSSPP from the command line (or a shortcut) with the argument --graphics=directx9 or --graphics=directx11 or --graphics=vulkan.

By the way, you might want to try to download the latest drivers for your GPU from NVIDIA, that might also have solved it.

I have the latest drivers, the issue is that memstick doesn't load properly either. I had to go into safe mode before this occurred.

Make sure the dedicated gpu gets picked to render job for ppsspp because you might've integrated graphics

@hrydgard

@KatherineFtw OK, that's very weird.

@TehPlayer14 We already use NVIDIA's recommended hack to get it to use the dedicated GPU if there are two.

@TehPlayer14

Permission issues then perhaps try to run PPSSPP as administrator? or moving the folder somewhere else or erasing memstick

Does this still happen in the latest git and with the latest drivers?

Hold on, I'll try a fresh install.

No issue, auto sets to Vulkin without problem. Not even using latest Nvidia Drivers yet. Don't know if if me having already fixed the issue affects this at all though.

@unknownbrackets

Ah - we default to Vulkan now in 1.6.x, maybe that's just effectively worked around this problem. But if it's a driver bug and it supports Vulkan anyway, that might be the best we can do.

I'm gonna close this, not clear what we can do...
