On the github actionsthe thing with github actions is these aren't really that useful when it comes to building stuff if you've already done it they strip you of ways to debug the build process so especially for kernel building it might be not that beneficial since config.xyz should be included in the repo, which generally means we've already built this kernel, additionally github might not be a fan of rebuilding one/few (if sth fails) kernel versions every sometime also there seams to be an issue with setting up arm64 runners and i haven't been able to do it once (both on github nor gitlab). granted it wasn't really a priority for me. when it comes to transparency and getting stuff to reproducible state it should be a good idea, give we actually test the results |

On changing the git hostingmoving to gitlab (or some other git hosting) likely isn't worth it it will cost the project positioning on google and make it more obscure for ppl to access/search for it unlike right now https://www.google.com/search?q=velvet+os also i've noticed google likes to sometimes correct gitlab as github unless there is website for the project with docs and info on the project that can act as front page of the project instead of this repo it would extend the amount of steps person has to take to get to the documentation (google -> old repo -> new repo -> docs) and making ppl use this method of accessing will only make issues worse since google sees ppl going to old repo but not to the new one which puts the old one higher we don't want to end up in unfindable (through google) state like |

this discussion is here to give an idea about the goals and plan for the
upcoming 2025 autumn release. besides that it is also ment to discuss ideas and
other topics around it. please do not understand it as a wish list, as
everything discussed here to go into this release should be doable with the
ressources available in the given time - for wishes and ideas which do not fit
into this category please open a separate discussion or github issue and we can
discuss them there then.
i'll carefully check what is required for this to work for an open source
project. there is no pressure to go there, but in the end this looks like the
cleanest approach if the project gets more and more driven by a community. also
a move to gitlab or some other git hosting might be considered.
cleaned up a bit for it
if anything is missing or wrong here, please add a note in the comments and as
a result of the discussion i'll update this entry here to the latest state.
looking forward to the 2025 autumn release of velvet os later this year -
