Terraform (and AzureRM Provider) Version

Terraform v0.13.5

  • provider registry.terraform.io/hashicorp/azurerm v2.38.0

Affected Resource(s)

  • azurerm_postgresql_server

Terraform Configuration Files

resource "azurerm_resource_group" "example" {
  name     = "example-resources"
  location = "West Europe"
}

resource "azurerm_postgresql_server" "example" {
  name                = "example-psqlserver"
  location            = azurerm_resource_group.example.location
  resource_group_name = azurerm_resource_group.example.name

  administrator_login          = "psqladminun"
  administrator_login_password = "H@Sh1CoR3!"

  sku_name   = "GP_Gen5_4"
  version    = "9.6"
  storage_mb = 640000

  backup_retention_days        = 7
  geo_redundant_backup_enabled = false
  auto_grow_enabled            = true

  public_network_access_enabled    = false
  ssl_enforcement_enabled          = true
  ssl_minimal_tls_version_enforced = "TLS1_2"
}

Apply this, and then change geo_redundant_backup_enabled to true.

Debug Output

N/A

Expected Behaviour

It should warn me about the resources having to be deleted, and ask me for approval.

Actual Behaviour

If fails and say :

Error: updating PostgreSQL Server "redacted" (Resource Group "redacted"): postgresql.ServersClient#Update: Failure sending request: StatusCode=0 -- Original Error: autorest/azure: Service returned an error. Status=<nil> Code="UnsupportedUpdate" Message="Cannot update GeoRedundantBackup for server"

This has been released in version 2.40.0 of the provider. Please see the Terraform documentation on provider versioning or reach out if you need any assistance upgrading. As an example:

provider "azurerm" {
    version = "~> 2.40.0"
}
# ... other configuration ...
