Dependency

Overview

We need to define our Hypothesis so that we can test against it.

Action Items

  • Write out all the potential problem statements we can think of

Students interested in STEM leave STEM education at too high an attrition rate
Students who graduate with STEM focus fail to succeed at STEM careers at too high a percentage

  • Within the Stem Attrition PDF , please try to answer the following:
What was that increased probability? 10% 60%

With respect to the outcome of leaving college without earning a degree or certificate, the MNP results showed that STEM entrants’ overall college performance and their level of success in STEM courses were better predictors than many other factors.

Poor performance in college (as reflected by a lower cumulative grade point average [GPA] through 2009) and high levels of withdrawn/failed STEM courses were associated with an increased probability of dropping out of college for both bachelor’s and associate’s STEM entrants.

  • Please try to find different research that reveals why do student leave (reasons they give)?

3rd Aug | Internship Mgmt meeting notes:

  • Word the problem statement well
  • 2 major issues - confidence, finances
  • We can help with the confidence
  • Find a research study for reasons for people dropping out - stats, how much of it is confidence?
  • Loopholes - this is how we will empower you, so that you can have a successful career in STEM
  • Probability of dropping out
  • We are not teaching math ; if doing poorly is only 10%, what are the other factors for the performance
  • Also, the current interns need to be interviewed on what they have learnt - research template
  • Research for internship programs and see what K-12 students get out of them

@sniux we didn't do any research on the assumption or biases. I might have to get more research on that. I don't want to just write assumptions based on my own understanding.
