I don't know if this is a general case, but at least for my use case, if i @ someone, typically I am replying to someone who has just said something. As such it would be nice if the @ dropdown were sorted based on two things:

  1. Weight based on when the user last sent a message in the channel
  2. Alphabetical

The weight of 1 would drop off pretty quickly the further back in the queue (or time elapsed) the user's last message was, finally defaulting to the typical alphabetical sort for the user.

The weights are currently determined by the time since a user last mentioned you in a given day.
