Current admin option

The only way to view locally cached index .loc files and related content within the Galaxy UI is through this link: "Admin > Data > Local data".

Problem

If no Data Mangers are installed, none of those are displayed, even if some exist. Reviewing this content as an admin within the UI makes it easier for non-technical Galaxy local admins to manage data.

Use example: A http://getgalaxy.org default install will always have a builds.txt file. An admin may want to review this, regardless of DM install status.

Two suggested solutions

First preferred and other ideas welcome to achieve the same goal

  1. Create another link that displays the file names as active links to permit review of the contents directly and independently of data manager tool install status.
  • Named something like "Local data: Index files".
  • Rename "Local data" to be more specific, something like "Local data: Data managers".
  • Retaining the display of the index files on the "Local data: Data managers" page (under the installed DMs, as it is now) seems fine.
  1. Keep everything under the existing "Local data" link, but display the index files whether or not any data managers are installed.
