Did anyone successfully start this project recently?

Mac user here and I can't seem to get this up and running.
Error I get regardless of what I try:
Failed to launch the app on simulator, An error was encountered processing the command (domain=com.apple.CoreSimulator.SimError, code=405):
Unable to lookup in current state: Shutdown

Other projects work fine and I'm able to build them normally.

I have tried following things:

1. Using npm instead of yarn
2. Changing scripts to use npx
3. Tried manually selecting device (tried 8, 12, 13, 14): npx react-native run-ios --simulator="iPhone 8"
4. Tried running following command: sudo xcrun simctl shutdown all && sudo xcrun simctl erase all
5. Tried removing entire projects 3 times and starting from beginning.

I'm using volta and I have tried node versions 14 and 16.

Any feedback is welcome.
