Feature: Don't show checkboxes until any item is selected

What feature or improvement do you think would benefit Files?

I'm uncomfortable with the empty checkboxes that appear just by hovering over an item. Simply not displaying this should greatly reduce discomfort.

If checkboxes appear after an item is selected, no functionality is lost.

Requirements

• Checkboxes should not appear until any item is selected
• If any item is selected, checkboxes should appear as in 2.4.60.

When you say selected, do you mean through the check box?

No, I mean clicking on a thumbnail or row to select it.

Should I make this change to the grid layouts as well? I feel that we should keep the behavior consistent but maybe this is an exception.

I believe the same is true for grid layouts.
It does not make sense for an empty checkbox to appear if other items aren't selected.
