For now I see that the option 1 is close to impossible, because it would require extremely good calibration for all brightness conditions. I think we should try to go with option 2, and use option 3 as fallback. If we manage to bring enough benefit for all employees, it should be possible to convince them to keep the kettle in some specific good place.
