Hi ExpressJS Community 🤗

I've been asked to help make sure that all the OpenJS Foundation project communities are aware that the deadline for our OpenJS Conference Call for Proposals has been extended through Feb. 28. Previously, this event was called 'Node + JS Interactive' and it leaned heavily toward Node.js. We're hoping to have a wider range of sessions about all the OpenJS Foundation projects, so we'd love to see presentations about Express!

I also wanted to make sure you're aware of the Collaborator's Summit, an event focused on project maintainers, collaborators & contributors. The goal for the collab summit is to provide opportunities for face-to-face working sessions within a single project or across multiple projects. So if you wanted to get your core team together you could do that, or if you want to have a session for new contributors to your project, or if you wanted to work across multiple OpenJS Foundation projects on issues like accessibility, privacy, security, modules, etc. you could do that too. If you're interested in securing session space at the collab summit, please ping me here, reach out on slack or twitter, or open an issue on the /summit repo.

The OpenJS World conference is June 23-24 and Collaborator's Summit is June 25-26 in Austin, TX. These are ticketed events, but members of OpenJS Foundation project communities are eligible for Travel Fund assistance. If you have questions or would like to find out more, please chime in on our /summit repo.

as always, let me know how I can help <3

Hey! I took on a new role at work and have been slammed. I was planning on submitting a talk, and @gireeshpunathil reached out to me as well about one. I decided that I could not commit to that at this time. I wonder if @gireeshpunathil went ahead with his proposal, or if he would be willing to. I was thinking I would just attend, but if you are lacking for content I might be able to squeeze something in, especially if @gireeshpunathil or any of the other new @expressjs/triagers want to help. I wonder if we could do a Q&A style thing with the triagers? Would that be interesting?

For the collab summit, I was planning on submitting for a time. I was thinking of doing a new collaborator onboarding track. I was also going to bring up here having a TC meeting live. I don't know how many folks would be able to attend, but it would be awesome if we could do something in person.

One way or another I will be there! Just couldn't spend much time on it yet with my work schedule 😢

Unfortunately I'm unavailable during those dates so I won't be able to submit a talk. Would have loved to been at the Collaborator's Summit! Oh well, maybe next time...

I'd like to attend the collab summit, and likely should to represent the nodejs.dev redesign project I've been working with.

I haven't gotten this scheduled with work yet, and not 100% sure I'll be able to. But assuming I am able to make it (which I very much so would like to) I'd be happy to talk about Triaging!

conference:

  • As @wesleytodd pointed out, I have reached out to him on a session abstract Essential Express learning kit which basically aims to provide a super-quick ramp up on vital express receipe - [1] multer [2] express [3] session [4] router [5] body-parser [6] path-to-regexp [7] security [8] cookies [9] generator [10] domains.
  • I haven't submitted this (yet) as I was (and am) looking for an express SME to anchor / share the weight, and @wesleytodd seem to be busy?
  • I am still game for it, if one (or two) co-speaker(s) join(s) me!
  • I have submitted one talk on Getting involved with Express - my experience so far: covering community engagement and triaging experience
  • I agree we could submit one on Express help Alive - same as Q&A style thing with the triagers that @wesleytodd is saying. Any one interested? @wesleytodd - If you are submitting, I am happy to join as a volunteer. I don't think we need all the volunteers to be listed as co-speakers. (we ran a similar thing for node.js in Montreal)
  • I am also interested in submitting one on Express programming best practices - basically covering the essence of advanced topics menu item in http://expressjs.com/ website. Anyone interested?

collab summit:

  • @wesleytodd's a new collaborator onboarding track and TC meeting live looks great to me!
  • how about one on express chat with the world? covering i) spreading word on the engagement opportunities in the project, ii) collecting direct user feedback (on features, migration, release cadence, governance, support...)

I guess for the conference we need to move fast while for collab summit we have a lot of time to think?

Hi @gireeshpunathil I would be willing to help share the load on that if @wesleytodd is not able; I assume that includes both creation of the content and being at the conference as a co-speaker? I leave the offer up to you and won't be offended if you decline, just wanted to put the offer out there :) I would be available to both (a) chat/work with you over time to prepare (chat room, voice, forum, or whatever works best) and (b) have the time available to attend the conference in June.

@dougwilson - this is great, thank you!

btw, just to double confirm:

willing to help share the load on that

I guess you are talking about Essential Express learning kit right?

I assume that includes both creation of the content and being at the conference as a co-speaker?

Yes, exactly. The imminent thing is to review / refine and submit the abstract. I am going to email you and Wes on this shortly.

I would be available to both (a) chat/work with you over time to prepare (chat room, voice, forum, or whatever works best) and (b) have the time available to attend the conference in June.

that would be nice! I am hoping we could submit this together, and the talk gets accepted, and that we will have ample time to prepare between then and june.

Wow, thanks @jorydotcom for posting and getting this conversation kicked off! Yes I am unable to dedicate the time it takes to put together a full talk, but I am happy to participate in a shared load. It sounds like the proposals on the table are the following:

  1. Essential Express Learning Kit
  2. Getting involved with Express - my experience so far
  3. Express programming best practices
  4. Q&A style thing with the triagers

IMO they are all great topics. I would be able to help on 4 for sure, as that would take the least preparatory work, just preparing topics and questions. If we had @gireeshpunathil, @jonchurch & @dougwilson live we could also maybe have a few remote folks on a video. I think that would be a pretty great thing and would be happy to moderate. If you all want me to write up that proposal I am happy to.

For the rest I would leave that up to you all. Each of these fits in the category of "alot of work" 😀.

I think we could do these all as one right? My idea for this was going to cover a bit of all of it anyway. There is limited space for their programming, so I would hate to monopolize folks and space. If we set up 1-2 hour and split it between all of this, would that work?

@wesleytodd - I agree with your comments, so:

  • Essential Express Learning Kit - sent an email to @dougwilson , waiting for response.
  • Getting involved with Express - my experience so far - done, submitted
  • Express programming best practices - merge into the next one or leave it for now
  • Q&A style thing with the triagers - @wesleytodd - yes please! go ahead with submission.

according the to the CFP page, today is the last day for conference talk submission.

@dougwilson - I emailed you (twice) on your ID visible in the github. Did you have a chance to have a look? thanks!

@wesleytodd - I am hoping that you are all set for the QA style.. submission (or already submited)?

Hi @gireeshpunathil I apologize; I was not paying attention to the date and I didn't see the email in and just kind of figured there wasn't a hurry. I just dug them out of the spam folder on my account and I'm reading through there are will reply though it all tonight before I go to sleep.

Your issue reminded me on this: I believe I got an email that the proposal was rejected from the conference, is that right? What are the next steps from there?

@gireeshpunathil

@dougwilson - Yes, the proposals Essential Express Learning Kit and Getting involved with Express - my experience so far are rejected. No further action on these AFAIK.

w.r.t this issue, there are other items such as collab submit proposals. IIUC, we have enough time to submit for that. @jorydotcom - do you know the timelines, as well as the latest forecast on collab summit (in view of COVID 19)?

I'm not sure if there is a deadline, but there is a forecast on the summit in the summit repo: https://github.com/openjs-foundation/summit I would probably ask about the deadline in that repo if you're not getting an answer in this thread.
