Should be able to provide a local directory, local archive, or an archive over the web to provide the kernel.

Suggest changing this to be for kernel and all components, e.g. see LIBFOO_SITE_METHOD for buildroot: https://buildroot.org/downloads/manual/manual.html#generic-package-reference

Just being able to parse http(s):// git:// scp:// file:// etc. would be good for nearly every package/component/kernel/etc.
