Add "search in appcenter" when no appropriate applications are found #446
Comments
Please could you explain further what advantages you think this would have, that would justify adding another menu option? |
For example, a user downloads a DEB file. The user cannot open it because no application was found that can handle DEB files. The user clicks "Search in AppCenter" and they find Eddy. They install Eddy and are able to run and install the DEB file. |
But will Eddy not be (one of) the recommended applications in the "Other Applications" dialog, assuming it has the appropriate settings in its .desktop file? In AppCenter you would have to type "deb" in the search bar, so you are not really saving key strokes/clicks are you? |
Oh, I see that in your case Eddy is not installed so it would not appear in the Other Applications dialog. OK. I'll see what UX team says. |
I think this could be useful and as it would only appear when there are no app entries it would not make the menu larger. |
Currently, if no applications are found for a file, it allows you to choose an application. It should also have a button that allows you to search AppCenter for that file.
