Your use case

What would you like to do?

e.g. search by MXID in forwarding UI

Why would you like to do it?

  • in this particular case, some users and rooms have non-ascii names but ascii aliases #a11y
  • overall, i think it makes sense to have a consistent searching experience for the same kinds of entities (i.e. rooms)

How would you like to achieve it?

reuse the same search engine

Have you considered any alternatives?

There are some inconsistencies with the new experimental global search box
(opened with CTRL-K) and the search box to find rooms or people to forward to.
The same query can yield different results and ordering in the two search
boxes, which is quite disturbing and has led me to forward things to the wrong
places more than once.
