Please implement the possibility to share the location using Openstreetmap.

I edit the issue to avoid creating a new one :)

  • Users should be able to click a button in a chat to share their location with other users in that chat for a specified duration (share current location, share for 15 minutes, 1 hour, 8 hours).
  • Users should not be able to share location in perpetuity due to the potential abuse vector and impact on battery life this represents.
  • Location shares should render in the timeline.
  • Clicking on any location-share event in the timeline should show a more detailed map view, including the locations of all users who are currently sharing their location in the chat.
  • After location sharing has ended, the location-share event should show the most recently shared location.

Sebastian, how should it look?

OsmAnd has telegram based separate tracker application:

https://osmand.net/features/tracker
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.osmand.telegram

It'll be nice to see shared contact movement in riot.
Possibly it should be done with a widget, but riot app should be able to provide position.

maybe it's possible to integrate https://github.com/bilde2910/Hauk via a widget?

I would change this only to say that sharing location in perpetuity might be a bad idea, but I'd still like to have the option. Perhaps impart to the user that it will negatively impact battery life, and negatively impacts the user's privacy.

We track this internally, still in discussion. We can keep this open for a while.

Should this be closed now?

would be great if this was implemented since it is the standard for all major chat applications..
After location sharing has ended, the location-share event should show the most recently shared location.

currently it just greys out and says live location has ended, providing no details about the location share.

Sounds great. Should probably be tracked in a separate issue though.

Created element-hq/element-meta#635 with some suggestions , feel free to comment on ideas!

This ticket could probably be closed in favor the one I just created since its the last remaining feature enhancement on this ticket.
