Currently, per the UI framework, sortable columns have an arrow to show the direction of the sort that has been applied. This arrow is applied once a column has been clicked on.

However, there is no indication that a column is sortable to begin with. To aid discoverability I wonder if we should show a grayed out sort icon prior to sorting, and then replace it with the corresponding ascending or descending icon upon click.

This issue seems still to be true for EUI. I will close this and ask you to reopen it on EUI if it's still relevant for the new table component :-)
