We have mixed grouping for applications that fall under the analytics use case. The homepage and overview page shows Kibana, and there is a Analytics grouping in the left hand nav. In search, we show the analytics grouping but you cannot search on it.

I'd like to propose that we use aliases (#76778) for Kibana and Analytics to return the applications under the analytics grouping in the left hand nav. Thoughts from the group?

Analytics seems straightforward, but Kibana feels a little mind bending. We still refer to the whole as Kibana in so many places (including our site/marketing) that searching for Kibana in Kibana strikes me as not intuitive.

@alexfrancoeur help clarify for me. What would you expect if I searched for "analytics"? A search result for all the entry points under "Analytics" in the left-hand nav?

Yeah that was the intent, but I had assumed this worked for other groupings as well. It doesn't seem to be the case.

We can do one of three things. Close this one out because I made a terrible assumption. Make the change only for Analytics. Make this change more broadly for groupings, using an alias for each grouping.

I'm in favor of option 3 - repurpose this issue to focus on adding all solution/grouping aliases.

It seems like a nice thing to do in one fell swoop as it may feel a bit broken to have Analytics return results and Observability not.

@alexfrancoeur
Do we have any data that says that people are already trying these terms when searching?
Or are we trying to enhance the top nav and promote it as the most convenient way to navigate in Kibana?

That was not directed at me, but I can confirm that this ^ has been a key driver from the outset.

Cool. Solution/grouping aliases supported in the nav supports the goal.

+1 on this. We should be able to easily auto-inject aliases based on the app categories.
