Kibana version: 8.0.0

Elasticsearch version: 8.0.0

Browser version: chrome latest

Original install method (e.g. download page, yum, from source, etc.): from source

Describe the bug: After installing sample data - user cannot navigate to dashboard

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Build latest 8.0.0 & open Kibana
  2. Install flights sample data
  3. Clicking on dashboard - gives you create index pattern warning

Expected behavior:
User should be able to navigate to sample dashboard

Any additional context: @flash1293 says its got to do with state management. We opened Kibana in another session - it takes you to dashboard.

@bhavyarm we encountered a similar issue, but it can be only reproduced if before loading any data, a user goes to dashboards (so the link is cached). In other words, here are steps to reproduce:

  1. Load Kibana and Elastic with no data
  2. Go to dashboards
  3. As there are no index patterns, you’ll be redirected to ‘create index pattern page
  4. Click on the Kibana logo
  5. Load any sample data
  6. Even though the index pattern exists, the dashboard link permanently redirects to create index pattern page, even after refresh.

Hope this is helpful.

@mbondyra thanks for the context. @maryia-lapata is already on it, this should be fixed soon. Till then, opening a new tab (or clearing session storage) fixes it
