For power users of Kibana, it might be nice to provide a few keyboard shortcuts for commonly-used operations such as:

  • Pressing cmd + / would change the focus to the search bar
  • Pressing cmd + t would open the time filter+refresh interval panel
  • Pressing cmd + s would save the current search, visualization, or dashboard

Someone ninja-edited my original description to include the cmd + prefix for the all the keyboard shortcuts. 😄

I think including the cmd + prefix is undesirable, from a UX perspective. For example, users expect cmd + t to open a new tab in a browser. Wouldn't it be annoying users if, when on a Kibana tab, that key combo did something other than what they expect?

Any news on a possible refresh button on Kibana4? Would be really handy :)

Started doing some research on considerations for keyboard shortcuts (aka hotkeys). A couple of good resources so far (with some overlap between them):

Since we pretty much settled for building the command palette in the future (#15019) which would also solve the hotkey issue, I am closing this in favor of the new issue.
