In ILM, the UI exposes default policies created by Logstash and Beats. This could cause problems because it opens the door to allowing users to change them. The UI also already has a concept of “system” indices; maybe we could apply the same approach to ILM and mark such policies as "system" so users are aware that they're not meant to be edited. We could also hide them by default and provide a "Show system policies" toggle to show/hide them.

Hi @cjcenizal, is that a duplicate of #101438? I'm not sure what you mean under "system" indices, are those the managed policies from the linked issue?

Thanks for the ping @yuliacech. I think this issue is outdated and we can close it in favor of #101438.
