Per the comments in #14452 (comment):

However, there is one situation when your saved search will stop updating and that is when someone has made and saved local edits to the saved search on the dashboard. For example, if you remove a column from a saved search in a dashboard panel, then save the dashboard, that search will always show that column set, even if columns are added or removed to the underlying saved search. We did it this way to still allow users to override the configuration at the dashboard level.

The above is a feature that allows users to do dashboard level override of the selected columns which will diverge from the underlying saved search's actual configuration.

The issue here is that once a user has performed the override, there is no indication in the dashboard that they are now running an override version of the original saved search. It will be a nice feature if we can add some indicator at the dashboard level to flag visualizations that have overrides so it is easy to tell if the dashboard is using the original saved search configuration, or a dashboard level customization/override of that object.
