When Search on page load is disabled, certain actions cause Discover to reset the default Start searching state, but it seems to only happen after the user has changed the data view at least once.

Adding or removing a field from the field list:
add_field

Changing the breakdown field:
breakdown_field

I've tested and it works correctly, I assume it has been fixed by one of the tasks of #142131
