The new Time Series Visual Builder is a powerful tool, but I believe there are some visual enhancements we can make to improve the user experience and provide guidance for utilizing this UI.

We are certainly open to suggestions from the community but some of the items we'd like to improve upon can be found below.

  • Advertise the visualization types that are available within the visual builder on the "add new visualization" page
    • The problem we surface here is that there are similar visualization types for a time series specific use case
  • We'd like to remove the tabbed approach for surfacing the different visualization types as this is not scalable.
    • Gauge, Goal and Metric have provided a drop down menu in their UI to switch between visualizations. We could provide something similar in this data-driven UI
  • More self explanatory input fields
    • Not all of the input fields are self explanatory. Given the current UI design, we are jamming a lot of input fields into a very small space so it leaves limited options for self-explanatory headers. We could utilize tool tips here or thing of other ways to organize some of these options
  • Given the current experience of the visual builder, are there small IA / style enhancements we can make to improve the end user experience? Would indentations help with defining multiple metrics? Are there spacing adjustments we can make? Easier drilldown configuration for Top N, etc.
  • Provide detailed documentation for the functions available ([TSVB] More detailed documentation #13433)

Closing this, since those are no longer planned to be addressed.
