Investigate new Pie-Chart features for Kubernetes Overview Dashboards

Context

As part of 8.6, Lens team introduced new feature related to the Pie-Chart visualisation. According to this we can use the LastValue filter inside a specific field of the Piechart and we can provide summaries of metrics based on specific group values. As Cloudnative team, we need to investigate whether this feature can be a good candidate to replace the visualisations of Kubernetes Integration Overview Dashboard for Pods, Deployments, Daemonsets, replicasets.

Problem Statement

Current visualisations for Pods, Deployments, Daemonsets, replicasets, include ad-hoc dataviews and make use of runtime fields. Although this provides the wanted outcome to return the last value and clearly present the current status of the Kubernetes cluster (regardless the time period of the search), they can be really performance heavy queries.

Pie Charts can be an alternative way to present the wanted summary overview for specific Kubernetes Resources and more over we expect better performance as far the query resource usage is concerned.

Action

As part of this story we should :

• Investigate if 8.6.0 Pie-chart feature can be used according to the standards we have set in EPIC: https://github.com/elastic/observability-dev/issues/2318
• Create New visualisations for Overview Dashboard
• Check if other Kubenretes Integration dashboards can be enhanced with pie charts and pro
• Open any new enhancement stories (Kibana Lens or Discovery enhancements) when the UX needs improvement

Deliverables

• New version of Kubernetes Dashboards as part of a new Kubernetes Integration package
• Any feature stories for UX enhancement
