i can't seem to find any connector for github task repository for updated mylyn, yet this source repo seems to contain it.

I believe it is called "Mylyn Tasks Connector: GitHub" and is available in recent releases of Eclipse IDE as downloaded from https://eclipseide.org/ or can be installed from the latest update site: https://download.eclipse.org/releases//latest

In the left screenshot you are showing the individual plug-ins installed in your IDE, on the right is available software features (groups of plug-ins) that can be installed. Since you seem to already have github features installed, it isn't showing as available on the right screenshot. I suspect you have the "Hide items that are already installed" checkbox selected?

In my install I can see the GitHub connection, and I have it connected to CDT's GitHub repo. For example, here is it showing all my https://github.com/eclipse-cdt/cdt/labels/flakytests issues.

I just tested it quickly now to make sure it worked for me and I was able to create jonahgraham/example-mylyn#1

I did it with a token (as opposed to user and password):

with these permissions:

yes, but with regards to validation working no matter what you type in credentials shouldn't this be a bug?
