What

GOV.UK Design System has updated its guidance on hint text to take a clear position on full stops, and it now contradicts our guidance (they say leave out, we say include).

We should either:

  • acknowledge this in our guidance and explain why we think differently, or
  • change our recommended practice to align with the GOV.UK Design System practice

Given that on principle we don't contradict GOVUK guidance unnecessarily we should probably change our practice to match theirs.

Why

Designers will not be clear which guidance they should follow.

Done when

  • Hint text guidance updated

Outcomes

We have a clear position on hint text.
