This is a couple of layers of issues here so I'll do my best not to be long winded.
Having not created a Quote post kind in a long time, I didn't realize the Response Properties was not enabled, a feature found inside of the top-right "Screen Options" panel. Because of this, I created a Quote post kind without any response properties, and I used the TinyMCE blockquote feature instead.
I syndicated the new post to Mastodon. Upon reviewing the new Mastodon post, it showed something like the following:
There's two main issues with this type of result. It seems largely useless for this to be the default syndication content, even if the format included the full quoted content for the Mastodon post. Instead, I'd hope for the same behavior as a regular “Article” post kind, where it uses either the first sentences or an defined excerpt. I never use or remember to use excerpt text.
To be explicit, what could make more sense as a syndication content is something like this, assuming no excerpt:
"The quoted text goes into this first part"
