  • Delta Chat Core Version: 0.840.0-PREVIEW Windows
  • Expected behavior: Messages sent from DeltaChat do not show up in the inbox but rather in sent messages
  • Actual behavior: Messages sent from DeltaChat show up as incoming emails
  • Details: I use DeltaChat with a web.de account and created messages with DeltaChat. All outgoing messages appear in my account's inbox after being sent. However, no messages appear in my account's sent messages folder. I assume that this is a bug. Otherwise I would be interested in the rationale of that behaviour.
    Thanks!

for traffic saving reasons we do not upload the message sent via smtp a second time via imap.
instead, we send the message also to ourself - this results in appearing in the inbox from where the message is moved to the DeltaChat folder then. this moving has some issues which should be fixed in 0.960, also by default we do no longer sent the message to ourself (it can be enabled, though)

No longer sending the message to ourself means the sent message will only be stored on the device that message was sent from? If that is the case I don't like that being the default setting.

I think it is a big advantage of DeltaChat and COI that there is no dependency on specific messenger apps. This advantage would be lost if sent messages were stored within the messenger app only. And yes, I am sure many users (including myself) will want a multi-device setup, e.g. with PC and phone. So I think it is essential that the communication is properly synchronized between devices.

I understand the traffic issue. However, wouldn't it be possible to have an imap subfolder of sent messages where the sent messages could be stored? I would be surprised if messages from the inbox could not be moved to the sent messages folder. So, sending the message to oneself could still be a good solution provided moving the messages works well.
