Any interest in copying the bash-completion into .local/share/bash-completions/completions (as applicable). This would put it on bash-completion's path so it could be found

You mean ~/.local? What's the standard for packages installing stuff outside of the environment prefix?

Also, how does bash find completions? Can you add your environment's bash-completions to its search path? If you install bash with conda, does it automatically look at $PREFIX/share/bash-completions? It looks like this package already installs completions there.

I'm not certain how to tell bash-completions where to look. There is a bash-completions cf pkg but what it is doing I don't understand.

It looks bash-completion is just a bunch of useful bash completions, and the package uses an activate script to install them.
