Lenovo USB-C to DisplayPort Adapter not working #1772

Addendum, this exact hardware setup (screen, cable, Lenovo adapter) works fine on a Fedora 31 install on another laptop. Linux moros 5.4.20-200.fc31.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Feb 17 19:31:55 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux lsusb -v gives

This apparently solved itself when installing the non-free nvidia drivers. What the heck? |

Screen recognises cable set-up but says no DisplayPort signal is being emitted.
Expected
A nice working external screen :-)

lshw -C display (I've blacklisted Nouveau to only run on Intel integrated instead)
