okay I got errors trying to run depot_tools,
which it turns out runs on python2. If your python --version gives you 2.7 then you are probably fine,
but the way arch linux handles python is I have a python2 command, and python is python3.

but that is probably only a problem for arch users, anyway I got it working by running:

git clone https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/tools/depot_tools.git
python2 ./depot_tools/gclient.py config https://github.com/chrisdickinson/nojs.git
python2 ./depot_tools/gclient.py sync

turns out running directly as python2 didn't work because the script will run other scripts.
instead I crreated a symlink from ~/bin/python -> python2 and then put that in my ~/.bashrc
export PATH="$HOME/bin:$HOME/depot_tools:$PATH"

running gn gen out/Default

got me this error:

This is where it was set.

I ran build/linux/sysroot_scripts/install-sysroot.py --arch=amd64
as suggested and it worked.

but then i ran ninja -C out/Default ':nojs'

and got this enormous error:

if i'm not mistaken, strcmp, string compare is a libc function? and so if that is not declared something is very wrong.

but it's probably something misconfigured etc which is causing that...

With the particular error you ran into, I think it was being pickier than the OSX build about needing the header around. I've since fixed that.

You might try again after gclient sync'ing and running through the (new & improved) linux steps in the README.md. This will make it start using the system build toolchain instead of clang.
