deleted or unclear anusvāras

How would you recommend the encoding of an anusvāra that's hard to read? We had
a reading that should, grammatically, be the plural jāyaṃte (in xml:id SS.5.7.8)

The anusvāra may have been rubbed out here (there's been some other scribal rubbing out on the same line). We can code it as jāya<unclear>ṃ</unclear>te. That works okay in IAST display, but it does not show up in Devanagari display. Obviously, a dot that's italicized is a questionable entity :-) But also, hovering the cursor over the Devanagari anusvāra dot doesn't give the "unclear" popup.
