How could the content be improved?

We currently say

You should also consider including your lesson in Hacktoberfest and similar wider community open source events aimed at encouraging people to contribute to open source projects periodically throughout the year.

and perhaps it is time for us to de-emphasise Hacktoberfest here: it feels like it's been a few years since I heard anything good about that event. Are there any other similar events we could refer to instead?
