With 'CodeGPT' now off the table, it's time to get creative and find a new name for the extension.

I'm open to all ideas - names, logos, slogans, you name it. It would be nice if the name also reflects local coding assistance, but it doesn't necessarily have to.

KoodAI
blends “Kood” (Estonian for code) with AI, reflecting Estonia’s tech leadership and innovation. It represents a smart, AI-driven coding assistant designed for efficiency and automation.

AIkas
A fusion of AI, “Aeg” (Estonian for time), and “Kasv” (growth), symbolizing AI-driven efficiency that accelerates development while fostering continuous improvement.

Vaim
Derived from the Estonian word for “spirit”, Vaim embodies the intelligence and adaptability of AI while nodding to Estonia’s deep folklore and cultural heritage.

Pillair
A blend of “Pillar” and “Air”, representing AI as a strong, vertical support system that upholds and reinforces code structures with stability and precision.

Braice
Inspired by “Brace”, a structural reinforcement, Braice signifies AI as a stabilizing force that strengthens and optimizes code integrity.

mAIson
Combining “Maison” (French for house) with AI, this name reflects an AI-driven architectural approach to coding, carefully building solid, well-structured software foundations.

I also did some branding for the PHP open-source projects CSV, PERIOD and URI. Let me know if you need some assistance!

@sandervanderkolk I actually like this one, it immediately reminds me of a new tech school that is being built in Estonia right now: https://kood.tech/. However, it might be hard to pronounce for non-Estonians (or not).

Something more unique would be better.

I don't think that would be an issue. These are two completely different things, each with its own goals in mind. In fact, it might even lead to a partnership, as I used to work for someone who is now funding that school.

However, I do agree that 'unique' would be better.

Thank you everyone for posting your ideas! ❤

I will keep this thread open until Sunday (16.02) and then create a poll for the ones I like the most.

A small note:

I'm not sure if I really like the acronym "GPT" in the name. It has actually been bothering me for a while since the end goal is to offer tools around LLMs, not the language model itself. CodeGPT was just something I got stuck with but never intended to keep.

I'm not sure if you're aiming for that in the future, but the current codegpt doesn't seem to be targeting that segment. Which isn't that important IMO, since Cursor etc. aren't very useful with large codebases anyway.

It was just something random that popped up during my morning feed scroll 😄

I believe the ultimate goal is to be versatile and offer everything that improves the developer experience in general, including agentic capabilities.

As a starting point, I'd like to achieve this without relying on codebase indexing or performing RAG over your entire codebase.

Essentially, it would be an agent capable of executing simple CRUD file actions by learning from the previous conversation history. However, to test this, we need to address #805 first. So, when ingesting code for the LLM, we also need to provide the path to the file.

Instead of:

```java
Some code
```

We should handle it like this:

```java:/path/to/App.java
Some code
```

It is important to consider SEO inside Intellij plugin marketplace. People who see other AI agents in VSCode of their colleagues are going to search through JetBrains marketplace with the same keywords or similar ;).

Image

The plugin does good job so far. However, competition soon to emerge, as VSCode is overcrowded already.
I actually had CodeGPT installed, but not used when I re-discovered it via ProxyAI now.

Another consideration for the plugin adaption at work is data compliance. While companies tend to provide some initial funding or attempt to standardize on AI tooling (like Co-Pilot movement), making that process easier for companies and employees to follow is crucial.

Renaming is always painful. Thank you for your work @carlrobertoh 🙏🏻 Good luck!

I've created the poll here: #887

Please vote for your preferred option.

Here are the opinions of the AI on the contender names:

Claude

Let me analyze each option and provide some thoughts on their suitability as a replacement for CodeGPT:
ProxyAI

While it matches the company name, it's too generic and doesn't specifically indicate a coding assistant
Could be confused with proxy servers or networking tools
Might limit future product diversification beyond coding tools

CodeBee

Friendly and memorable
"Bee" implies productivity and collaboration
Clear connection to coding through "Code" prefix
Could potentially face trademark issues with other "bee" themed software products

KoodAI

Creative spelling of "code"
Clearly indicates AI functionality
Unique but still intuitive to pronounce
Might be harder for users to find through search

Braice

Unique name combining "brain" and possibly "AI"
Short and memorable
Doesn't clearly indicate coding functionality
Could be confused with other words/brands

Zyntax

Creative play on "syntax"
Unique and memorable
Clearly related to programming
Modern and technical feeling

Jipity

Playful and unique
Doesn't clearly indicate coding or AI functionality
Might be harder to market/explain
Could be confused with "jittery"

Recommendation:
Among the given options, I would recommend Zyntax because it:

Has a clear connection to programming through its relationship to "syntax"
Is unique and memorable
Sounds professional yet modern
Is unlikely to face trademark issues
Clearly indicates the tool's purpose

Alternative Suggestion:
Consider "SynthCode" - This combines "synthesis" (suggesting AI's ability to generate/understand code) with "code". It's:

Descriptive of the tool's function
Professional sounding
Unlikely to face trademark issues
Easy to remember and spell
Clearly indicates programming focus

Would you like me to analyze any of these options in more detail or suggest more alternatives?

R1 Based on the considerations of branding, clarity, memorability, and avoiding trademark conflicts, here's a concise evaluation and recommendation: Top Recommendations:
ProxyAI

Pros: Aligns with your company name, ensuring brand consistency. Safe if trademarked under your company.

Cons: Less descriptive of the plugin’s function, but branding can compensate over time.

Zyntax

Pros: Combines "syntax" (coding relevance) with a modern twist. Memorable, short, and tech-sounding.

Cons: No direct "AI" reference, but context (e.g., taglines) can clarify.

CodeBee

Pros: Friendly, approachable, and retains "Code" for clarity. Evokes productivity (like a busy bee).

Cons: May feel less professional for enterprise tools.

Other Options:

KoodAI: Creative but risks misspelling ("Kood" vs "Code").

Jipity/Braice: Too abstract; weak connection to coding/AI.

Alternative Suggestions:

CodeFlow (emphasizes coding workflow)

DevAssist (clear purpose)

AIDEvin (play on "AI Dev")

Final Advice:

If ProxyAI is trademark-safe, use it to leverage your existing brand. Otherwise, Zyntax strikes a balance between relevance and uniqueness. Avoid names that dilute clarity (e.g., Braice) or risk typos (KoodAI). Always verify trademark availability for the final choice.

ChatGPT ProxyAI • Shares its name with the company, which could strengthen brand consistency but may lead to confusion or dilute the product’s unique identity.

CodeBee
• Conveys industriousness and friendliness.
• The bee imagery suggests diligence, though it might feel a bit casual or cutesy for a professional coding tool.

KoodAI
• Clearly signals an AI tool for coding, but the unconventional spelling may cause pronunciation or searchability issues.

Braice
• Has a modern, abstract feel but doesn’t immediately hint at coding or AI, potentially obscuring the tool’s function.

Zyntax
• Clever twist on “syntax,” directly relating to coding.
• Unique and memorable without being overly gimmicky.

Jipity
• Playful and whimsical, but it lacks a clear connection to coding or AI, which might weaken its professional appeal.

Recommendation: “Zyntax” best balances relevance, uniqueness, and memorability.

Alternative Suggestion: “CodeNova” – it suggests innovation and coding prowess while remaining succinct and modern.

Surprisingly, all three of them chose "Zyntax"

I am afraid it's too late, but still

Your plugin is very different from hundreds of others, because it's opensource. And it's not only awesome, but also makes it very outstanding an unique.

So I would suggest to mark it in name, for example, put word "open" into it 😉

Thanks for your kind thoughts! 🙂

I've been trying to keep it SEO friendly, although I know that both the plugin's description and screenshots need some refinement.

True, and I have some ideas about this. First and foremost, the plugin's documentation site needs to be taken care of, which I'm still having a hard time doing.
