What happened?

If you select the Arabic language during installation as a keyboard layout, then you no longer can write using English. You are instantly changed to an Arabic keyboard layout.

However, this brings an issue that you can not write the hostname/username during installation; because they have to be in English (or a Latin script I think? idk).

So basically, you are blocked from continuing the installation.

And no keyboard shortcut I tried has worked for at least switching it back while doing the installation.

Maybe it affects other languages too, I am not sure.

This renders using an Arabic layout during installation... pointless.

What was expected?

The English keyboard layout should still be used during installation. Only after installation, the Arabic keyboard layout should be used.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Download Ubuntu 24.04 daily build ISO.
  2. Select Arabic layout during installation as a keyboard layout.
  3. Go to the next step where you have to write the username and hostname... etc.
  4. Observe that you can't write hostname in Arabic, thus, the installation is blocked.
