Media picker v3 stores the available media types so presumably SuperValueConverters could be extended to support that too?

Yes absolutely!

The media picker converter previously had to be removed in V8 due to some breaking changes - see discussion here umbraco/Umbraco-CMS#6034.

Will happily accept a PR 😊
