Hi maintainers of Pix2Text (P2T),

First of all, thank you for creating and maintaining such an excellent open-source project. Pix2Text has proven to be a valuable tool for converting various content types into Markdown format, including text and mathematical formulas.

Given the rising popularity of Rust for systems programming and its performance benefits, I believe there is significant interest in a Rust version of Pix2Text. Rust provides excellent guarantees for safety and concurrency, which could potentially enhance the stability and efficiency of the application.

Request:
I would like to request the development of a Rust version of Pix2Text that mirrors the current functionality of the Python version. Some key features that should be included in the Rust version are:

  1. Layout recognition
  2. Table recognition
  3. Image recognition
  4. Text recognition, including mathematical formulas
  5. Conversion of entire PDF files (including scanned images or any other format) into Markdown

I understand that this is a significant undertaking, but I believe that a Rust version of Pix2Text would attract a broader community of users and contributors. If this request aligns with the project's future goals, I am also open to discussing how I might be able to contribute to this effort.

Thank you for considering my request, and I look forward to your thoughts on this matter.
