Histogram metrics are unexpectedly failing to export to Datadog for client applications OTEL metric integration. The metrics, when fed a static value of 1, do export to Datadog, but when real production values, such as measured execution latency, are supplied the metric does not export successfully.

Histograms are bucketed based on extents defined either by default or by adopting explicit extents at histogram metric startup. The documentation on how collection behaves when the values land outside of the specified or default extents is not well covered but I suspect the reason for the difference in export behavior between the explicit value of 1 and actual values observed in the clients execution environment has to do with the live values landing outside of the default extents - which appear to cap out at 1000
