Referral marketing #286
Comments
The above idea is incomplete. I still don't have this fully figured out. Feedback, criticism welcome. |
They could just post their BSQ address in the corresponding github issue, together with the txid for those first trades. |
Another possibility for marketing is to use Nostr and zaps. See #282 |
Biggest issue, as identity won't be verified, is self trading and use of different accounts just with the purpose of getting the reward. My question in regards of zaps is: how well is Bisq known between nostr users? Which I assume are still old time bitcoiners with a fair degree of knowledge? I think it's already quite high. |
Primal explore tab gives good data on zaps, users, etc... Compared to Twitter's ~450 million monthly active users, Nostr's ~600k seem very few, but a very high percentage of them are bitcoiners and concerned with privacy, censorship resistance... so the overlap with Bisq target audience is very high. |
@flix1 I am seriously interested in generating qualified demand for bisq via content. Can we discuss somewhere? |
Bisq does not have nor will probably ever have a marketing team with a marketing budget, etc. We rely on word of mouth and satisfied users to grow. However sometimes, especially when launching new markets or taking advantage of an opportunity, you need to get the word out quickly. You need actual marketing, promotion, advertising, etc.
For example when the time comes to launch Bisq 2 it will be important to get the first 100 users interacting on it and testing it as quickly as possible.
A simple workaround is to outsource marketing to third parties via a revenue share or one-off payments based on referall code use. Other P2P exchanges like Peach, Hodlhodl have such referral code systems.
How would this work for Bisq?
BSQ atomic swaps are the answer. Obviously any reward given to marketers will be in BSQ (which they can easily swap for BTC or spend on Bisq fees).
For example Revolut pays $50 to anybody who gets a friend to download their app... obviously they have easy ways to identify the referrer and the new user gained. Goal: new users. Marketing mechanism: referral link. Spend: $50 per new registered (verified) user.
How would this translate to Bisq?
Well we don't care about downloads and we cannot identify or verify users or who referred them... But we do care about liquidity and published offers... and we can send BSQ to anyone who has made a BTC-BSQ trade!
So instead of getting a friend to download an app and KYC, etc... what a bisq promoter would need to do to get his 50 BSQ reward would be to guide his friend through his first BTC/BSQ trade and be the one to sell them their initial BSQ.
All the DAO would have to do to reward this is to send 50 BSQ to the first 100 BSQ sellers in the promotional period.
