I installed this version of the PI TFT50 (v1.0) at a microcenter a couple days ago and just now had the chance to install it. however, once i plug the screen into the Pi, wifi never connects. if I unplug the screen then wifi comes back. any thoughts?

I had the same issue. In my case, I narrowed it down to a power issue. Although the pi is not complaining about the power, it would appear that the BTT PI TFT50 draws enough current to affect the pi's wifi hardware. My solution is to dim the display backlight all the way down (so the screen is blank) when booting up the pi, then after the pi has booted, I turn the backlight up to the lowest brightness possible to see the screen.
