Style can use a look for consistency. More in-code documentation will help future contributors.

Code now updated to (mostly) match Google style guide. Docstrings for all functions, modules and classes and added extra in-code documentation for everything to make it easier to understand. Made formatting consistent - no more python2 syntax!

This is effectively done on my branch, but I am not willing to push it till I can test everything works. I am going to merge this in alongside fixes to the build system for local builds.
