auto-property ignores properties declared as buffer local variables

The auto-property selector seems to only check inside property drawers. But properties can also be declared as buffer variables in the form:
#+PROPERTY: name value

I got around it by putting a property drawer as the first line of the buffer.

Perhaps it would be worth noting this in the documentation?

I don't know why that would be the case; as you can see, we call org-entry-get:

Have you checked the option org-super-agenda-properties-inherit?

I came across the same issue before I found this discussion.

In the following example, I would expect auto-property to group by "Project: Alice" and "Project: Bob", however Alice ends up in "Other items".

Filtering by org-ql's property works though. It seems that org-entry-get on the marker in auto-property does not get the inherited property. I also tried to define my own auto group based on auto-property but with hard-coded inherit set to t. It did not make a difference. When printing all properties available on the marker by org-entry-properties, I could only see CATEGORY.

I don't know how to investigate further.

You're a bit behind the times. :) That was added to Org some time ago.

As for why it works with the drawer and not with #+PROPERTY:, I don't know, because it works for me. But you're probably using a different version of Org.

You're right, I am on the bleeding edge (9.8-pre). So perhaps something has changed in Org.

Anyway, drawer works for me. I did not know it worked when I was first writing my previous comment. Maybe it's also a solution for @max6166.

It's very important to mention software versions when reporting problems. It's infinitely more so when using unreleased versions.

It would probably be good to bring this up on the Org mailing list, because you might have found a bug. But probably you should check the changelog first.
