Is Zelcore open source or not? #135
Comments
Hi, Zelcore is currently NOT open source. Both Zelcore desktop and Zelcore mobile applications are closed source. All the supported libraries and few files are open sourced. Zelcore is further undergoing regular security audits and is planned to be fully open sourced at the end of 2025. In case you are interested in open source wallet for Flux, please do check out SSP Wallet - https://sspwallet.io - that is a fully open sourced multi-asset 2of2 wallet that supports all of Flux and is paving the way of being the most secure wallet in the space. Furthermore has groundbreaking tech of Schnorr Multisig Ethereum and also is fully security audited by Halborn. // Thank you for pointing out the description, I have adjusted it accordingly |
I am currently using SSP. It is fine for receiving payouts from mining, but all of the documentation I see says that you need Zelcore (specifically) to operate a node and or do other things more advanced than simply transacting the coins. |
@teotikalki you can run nodes and also receive parallel asset rewards in SSP as well |
Your website (https://zelcore.io/) has a notable lack of the phrase 'open source'.
This repo has the description "Open source components of ZelCore" which strongly implies that there are components that are NOT open source.
I have no interest in proprietary code interacting with my crypto.... ever. Does this effectively exclude me from the Flux ecosystem, since it seems that participation in anything but having Flux tokens requires this specific wallet?
The description for this repo is abysmal. There is no information at all.
The 'Release' section has source code with no build instructions in sight and Windows binaries. What's a Linux user to do?
How is this project this old and yet this opaque? I want to stake some FLUX to 'autopay' for running a container, which seems like it should be in line with the purpose of this project (Flux as a whole) and also seems like it SHOULD be much, much easier and more transparent than it is.
