Perhaps it would be possible to implement an identity server, with possibly a choice to install it or not during the installation of the application.
It would be possible to use sydent as identity server. Or maybe mxisd which is able to use LDAP authentication.

Well,

For now it's not planed to implement this on this app. I think that it's really a specific use case because an identity server not synchronized with the other one is not really useful. And actually I don't think that there are any solution to synchronize with the official identity server.

mxisd is synchronized with default identity server and support LDAP, so it will make possible to use LDAP with this app.

Well seeing that mxisd is written in Java and that there will be some change on the organisation of this project ("This project is no longer maintained as a standalone product and will be merged in Gridepo. See the End of Life notice for more details."). I won't implement this in synapse. But you still can create a specific app for this, or maybe create on PR on this project.

What about this one?
I use matrix just with a few contacts which would all use the private identity server. Would be a nice thing for maximum privacy.
